Doing some reminiscing research into this late 90’s favourite I found the hilarious news that a fair chunk of the episodes had to be edited by the BBFC to suit our audiences. Having been to a recent talk at the BFI Southbank focusing on the history of censorship in this country, i’m aware the administration and reviewing process was totally different back then, so that might be the reason for such actions. But seeing as I haven’t seen the RAW AND UNCUT versions and i’m sadly not in my pre-teen years, I’ll never know how spookily strange R. L. Stine could’ve been to a tiny mind. What I do remember is that each episode/book followed the same basic outline of “standard family move into new house and find some odd creature in one of the rooms”. Rinse and repeat.
